Here at MN Nice Botanicals, your Minnesota Local CBD suppliers, we are often asked the difference between Full Spectrum CBD, Broad Spectrum CBD, and CBD Isolate. Although we answer this question briefly in our FAQ, we wanted to take the time to offer up a resource with a more in-depth answer. So, without further adieu…
The Difference Between CBD Isolate, Full Spectrum CBD and Broad Spectrum CBD –
The answer is relatively simple – Full Spectrum CBD is the extract of the entire plants cannabinoid, terpene and flavonoid profile, Broad Spectrum is Full Spectrum with the THC removed via a process known as Chromatography, and CBD Isolate is purely Cannabidiol (CBD) isolated from the rest of the plant. But what does this mean for the final product? And what are the differences or benefits from one to another? Let’s take a closer look at each.
Full Spectrum CBD – As we mentioned before, Full Spectrum CBD is an extract of the entire plant’s cannabinoid, terpene and flavonoid content. The final result is an oil that crystallizes over time. Full Spectrum CBD generally contains low amounts of other cannabinoids; CBG, CBN and THC to name a few. Each cannabinoid has its own effect, and each cannabinoid works together synergistically in what we in the industry like to call ‘the entourage effect’, giving more benefit with less material. Terpenes and flavonoids also add to this effect, and although covering the individual cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids is out of the scope of this article, we will be following up with articles on each cannabinoid, the science behind each, and some anecdotal perceived effects. Generally speaking, Full Spectrum CBD is more desirable than CBD Isolate or Broad Spectrum CBD, because of the entourage effect we just discussed. However, many people don’t want any THC in their CBD for various personal reasons. If they’re still looking for the entourage effect, they might try Broad Spectrum CBD.
Broad Spectrum CBD – Broad Spectrum CBD is Full Spectrum CBD run through a process called chromatography to isolate and eliminate individual substances from the final product, in this case, THC. Broad Spectrum CBD has a similar consistency and flavor to Full Spectrum CBD, it’s an oil when initially extracted that crystalizes into a solid over time. Broad Spectrum CBD is a fantastic alternative for anyone who does not want any THC in their product but are still looking for the synergistic entourage effect found when combining multiple cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. Many however, don’t like the taste of Full Spectrum CBD or Broad Spectrum CBD products, many also prefer only CBD in their CBD products, in which case CBD Isolate may be preferred. Here at MN Nice Botanicals, your MN Local CBD Supplier, we plan on offering Broad Spectrum CBD products a little more down the road.
CBD Isolate – CBD Isolate is the isolated CBD compound. CBD Isolate is a crystallized product, often appearing as a powder of fine crystals. Although the entourage effect won’t be experienced, many people prefer CBD Isolate to Full Spectrum CBD or Broad Spectrum CBD, noting that the other cannabinoids change the experience in an undesirable way, or that they simply don’t notice much of a difference between the Full Spectrum and the Isolate. Remember, Cannabinoids affect everybody differently depending on a large variety of factors. CBD Isolate products are also generally a little less expensive than Full Spectrum CBD products, and even less expensive than Broad Spectrum CBD products, which may be helpful to those on a budget. Another advantage to CBD Isolate is that it is odorless and flavorless, opening the door for added flavors, making the consumption of the tincture itself more enjoyable.
Everyone is different, what works for some might not work for others. Although it may take some experimentation to find what’s right for you, we hope this little guide has given you the information necessary to make your CBD purchase an informed CBD purchase.
